GOING all out for Christmas this year is the Duke of York pub in Cowes — and all for a good cause.
The interior of the pub has been adorned with hundreds of Christmas baubles, and there is a competition running to guess how many there are.
"The biggest balls up in Cowes" is just £1 to enter, and the prizes are a meal for four, a meal for two, and a bottle of Champagne.
It was a mammoth task to get the baubles strung up, and this job was done by Melvin Hatcher — taking him three days.
Outside the pub, a large Christmas tree has been decorated with L-plates as a poignant tribute to driving instructor Graham Sprack, a friend of the pub, who died of a brain tumour earlier this year. His wife Diane and family were so grateful of the help and emotional support given by The Wight Brainy Bunch, the pub is donating the money to the charity.
Sally Cass, of the Duke of York, said: "It's really funny when customers ask 'what's with the L-plates?' I offer to tell them but only for a donation."
Sally had decided not to buy a big tree this year, and instead donate the money to the charity, but she got a phone call from Kev Richmond of Mill Hill Road who offered his for free. Mark Spencer cut it down and delivered it to the pub free of charge.
The bauble competition will run over Christmas and New Year and prizewinners will be notified in early January.
