CHILLERTON and Gatcombe residents rolled up their sleeves and cooked Christmas lunch for their older neighbours.

Some people roasted turkey, others cooked the veg, then they served the meal — with a glass of sherry, of course — and even cleared up afterwards.

Twenty-four festive lunches were served at Chillerton Village Hall, where residents brought their own wine to share. Another eight were delivered to housebound residents.

Sponsored by Chillerton and Gatcombe Parish Council, and supported by the Community Association and Radcliffe's in Blackwater, the event has been running for three years.

Parish Council chair and Community Association member, Cllr Gillian Belben, said: "It started as a one off event and was so well received we have continued to hold it.

"A team of six residents cooked behind the scenes and nine more helped on the day. I would like to thank everyone for making this event such a success."
