A NEW charity shop helping the Isle of Wight's disabled people opened its doors for the first time in Shanklin.

The town's mayor, Cllr Steve Knight, helped to open the new John's Club shop based in 62 High Street.

John's club supports more than 200 people with an age range of between 18 and 80 with any form of disability, whether it be physical, mental health problems or a learning disability.

The club also offers a safe environment for people who struggle socially.

In addition to the shop, the club runs a number of groups including, a self-help group, a day centre and a football club and are always looking for volunteers, trustees and drivers.

Anyone who can help please phone 862165. The old shop at 67 High Street Shanklin will be having a one day sale on January 5 next year between 10am and 6pm to sell everything off cheaply.

The club would like to thank its staff, volunteers and members as well as members of the public for their on going support.
