EMERGENCY services were called to Shanklin Esplanade this evening (Wednesday) after reports were received that a man had entered the water.

Coastguard rescue teams from Ventnor and Bembridge, the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, police and paramedics were called to the incident which took place at around 8pm.

However, the coastguard and lifeboat crews were stood down when police got the man out of the water.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics as a precaution.
