FIREFIGHTERS are working to free two people trapped in a car which flipped on its roof in Ryde this evening.

The accident took place at the junction of Melville Street and Dover Street in Ryde at around 5.15pm.

Two fire appliances from Ryde, a rescue tender from Newport and ambulances are at the scene of the accident.

A second vehicle was also involved in the accident.


Two people, believed to be a man and a woman, have been freed from the car and have been taken to St Mary's Hospital, Newport. Neither are believed to be seriously injured.

The occupant of the second vehicle is not thought to have been hurt in the accident.
