AN ISLE of Wight dance group brought a haul of 34 medals and two trophies back from a prestigious dance competition.

The Starlight Boutique took 17 students aged eight to 15 years old to Brean Sands in Burnham-on-Sea to take part in Encore, the Ultimate Dance Experience.

The prestigious dance event has a number of world class judges including Britain's Got Talent finalist Twist and Pulse, Strictly Come Dancing choreographer Lizzie Gough, and choreographers to recording artists such as Rita Ora and Little Mix.

The event attracts groups from all over the UK including the current European and World dance champions.

Teacher Mary Bowdery said: "I am thrilled to announce that our little group of Island dancers held their own and came away with 34 medals and two trophies.

"Six duets were recalled through several rounds, making it to the top 20, and we placed fourth in street dance and fifth in contemporary.

"Not only did the dancers do fantastically in the competition, they got to take part in workshops from the judges, including Twist and Pulse.

"We would like to say a massive thank you to our sponsors, Gems Bridalwear, Harrison Black and Pipeline Mechanical Ltd, who helped get us there and paid for our fantastic uniforms."
