COWES has earned the right to host yet another prestigious sailing event.

The RS Elite Class have selected Cowes for the venue for their National Championships in 2020.

The Solent event will be hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes, between July 9-12.

It is expected the championships will attract a top class fleet of 60 RS Elite day boats.

The decision to choose Cowes as the event venue was encouraged by the growth of the Cowes fleet of RS Elites.

The current seven boats in the Cowes fleet are expected to rise in number by next season.

To further encourage the growth of the fleet on the Isle of Wight, several ‘Try A Boat’ events will be held in Cowes next spring.

A recent convert to the fleet, Isle of Wight resident Philip Wright, said: “The RS Elite is an ideal boat for Solent sailing from Cowes, with racing available two evenings a week, as well as weekends throughout the summer season.

“They can be sailed by two, three or four people and are very easily managed, with minimal maintenance required.”
