MORE than 100 runners took part in this year's Queensgate Fun Run.

With a 5km run, and a more challenging ten mile one, runners of all abilities headed for the start line at Queensgate Primary School.

Those taking part were lucky with the weather, enjoying glorious sunshine for the East Cowes run.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Yet again, we were extremely lucky in being granted permission to take the ten mile run through the beautiful, historic grounds of Osborne House and the Barton Estate, into Wootton and back to the school via Alverstone Road.

"The 5km route took the runners from the school into East Cowes and then through Whippingham, finishing back at the school."

This was the seventh annual fun run held at the school.

The event, held last month, raised £1,200 for the children of Queensgate through the PTFA. The proceeds will go towards creating a new outdoor learning environment and buying new cookery equipment.

Stuart Backhouse won the ten mile run, with a time of 01:06:20, and Laura Barton was the first woman over the line with 1:15:57.

First in the 5km run was James Brett, with 00:20:55, followed by Chris Sillito, aged just 12, in second place, with 00:21:16.
