RELAY for Life, the 24-hour relay walk, dance or run around the track at Smallbrook Stadium, has raised more than £12,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Hundreds of families, friends, colleagues and survivors took on the challenge and were supported by Island musicians, Wightlink's Speedway Warriors and Wizards and a silent disco throughout the day and night.

A spokesperson from the event posted on Facebook: "The team would like to give our heartfelt thanks to everyone of you as we can now reveal that you amazing people smashed last year's total and raised a whopping £12,269.15 for Cancer Research UK Relay for Life.

"Your hard earned money goes to Southampton General and Oncology Unit where Islanders are treated."

Registration is already open for next year's relay, happening on September 14 - September 15.
