DRIVING a vehicle after drinking led to a court appearance for an Isle of Wight man.
Shane Portsmouth, 31, of Arthurs Hill, Shanklin, was barred for three years after admitting drink-driving, using a car with no insurance and driving without a licence when he appeared before Island magistrates Today (Tuesday).
The court heard Portsmouth was spoken to by police in George Street, Sandown, after they received a tip-off two 'drunk' males had got into a vehicle.
He blew a reading of 93mgs in 100mls of breath — the legal limit is 35.
He had a previous conviction for drink-driving in 2010, said Vivian Ducie prosecuting.
For Portsmouth, Barry Arnett said his client was annoyed with himself.
The vehicle was registered to his brother-in-law who, Portsmouth claimed, had been driving but they had an argument and he got out, leaving Portsmouth with the vehicle.
Mr Arnett said: "He had driven it a distance of no more than 20 metres. His brother-in-law had left it in the middle of the road."
Magistrates sentenced Portsmouth to a 12 month community order and told to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.
He was also told to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £85.
