THE National Poo Museum is looking to seize a great op-poo-tunity and relocate into a permanent home.

The quirky Island attraction, which started life at the Isle of Wight Zoo, is hoping to make the big movement into Sandown Barrack. The site is currently a series of standing structures, earthworks and buried deposits.

A planning application has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council by Dan Roberts of the Poo Museum, seeking approval for the big push. The proposed development would make use of the existing disused buildings and change the use of the derelict site.

The museum is currently based in a studio and workshop in public buildings alongside Browns Golf Course at Culver Parade. The museum hopes to break down taboos around poo and its place in human life. It has established active partnerships with universities and health organisations, as well as with zoos and conservation programmes across the world.

The museum would be located in the old cafe at the barracks, and the new cafe in the old gardeners store. An exhibition space would be built in the external toilets, and the disused disabled toilet will be brought back in to public use. The majority of the work would be internal with some external installations, subject to conditions.

There is no request for additional parking, and visitors would be able to park at the Heights and encouraged to visit the site on foot.

The new museum would create two full-time jobs, with the museum open 8am to 6pm daily.

The timetable of work is to begin repairs in 2018.

Here’s hoping they make a big splash at their number one home.

Residents can view and comment on the plans until September 14.
