ON THE day the new Red Jet 7 was named by Her Royal Highness, Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, Red Funnel have released a time-lapse of the vessel being built.

About 85 skilled Island craftsmen have been employed during the build at Wight Shipyard Co., including several apprentices.

The new ship is the greenest Red Jet in the fleet — four tons lighter than Red Jet 6 with improved fuel consumption and further reduced emissions.

It also adds significant additional capacity to the Southampton-West Cowes ferry route with 51 per cent more seats than the outgoing Red Jet 3, which this vessel replaces.
