SAILING conditions meant the Round the Island yachts put on a spectacular show just as Ventnor Day was in full swing on Saturday.

The sight of the yachts, combined with the strength of the heatwave, put Ventnor in the perfect position to look and feel at its best.

For the third successive year, Ventnor Town Council organised Ventnor Day on the green in Dudley Road, to showcase all that makes the town unique and celebrate its community spirit.

There were 40 stalls from community and voluntary sectors, as well as music, food and crafts.

Among the highlights were the Viking re-enactment group Wolfguard, songs from Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat by a large cast from the Island Savoyards, and the provision of refreshments by the Ventnor Carnival team.

Ventnor Comic Jazz Band also livened up the proceedings in its usual way, by marching round the town in very noisy fashion.

Ventnor Town Council's community development officer, Tony McCarthy, said: "Ventnor Day was a great success and we've already got the date set for 2019 – Saturday, July 6."
