"JUST because they will never properly get to drive, doesn't mean they don't love their cars."

Driving instructor John Marsh said everyone had a fantastic morning when a group of adults with learning disabilities took to the wheel.

Organised by the Phoenix Project and DLIW (Driving Lessons Isle of Wight), the event gave participants the opportunity to experience driving a car.

Driving instructors gave up their time to be part of the morning, at the Isle of Wight College car park last Saturday.

John said: "The instructors find it very rewarding, we enjoy it as much as the drivers do — we all get a buzz out of it.

"The participants are all very keen, and they all steer the car and do the hooter. They all get to have a go."

The initiative has been an annual event for at least five years.

This year's instructors were John Marsh, Paul Durbridge, John Hayes, Ronnie Buckett, Trevor Pryor and Paul Buckland.
