WALKERS aiming to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity smashed their £5,000 target at the weekend.

Victory for Vicki was a 109km round-Island challenge in honour of Sandown woman Vicki Beale, who was recently diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour and has just months to live.

The walk was a huge success with several of Vicki's family and colleagues taking part.

Her daughter, Natalie Beath, said: "It was an absolutely fantastic weekend. Everything ran accordingly to plan with everyone starting and finishing on time.

"So many people donated that we met along the way and they all mentioned they had seen the fab article in the County Press.

"We just want to say thank you to everyone who took part, supported the challenge and donated. The Brain Tumour charity is a very worthy cause which will greatly benefit from the fundraising."

Vicki, 61, works for travel specialists Discover the World, and her colleagues have raised money by holding a bake sale, hat day, car wash, and raffle, as well as organising the walk.

The walkers completed a relay to cover the entire walking route around the Isle of Wight, starting and finishing in Niton.
