CROWDS lined Ventnor Esplanade to watch this year's Boxing Day swimmers take the plunge.
Around 400 hardy souls — in various states of dress and inebriation, according to organisers — took part in the annual charity dip, raising an record £3,448 for PATCH (People's Approach to Cancer Help).
The charity helps Island people with the cost of travelling to medical appointments.
Organiser Erika Arnold praised the community for coming together to support the event, from the locals who collected donations to the Ventnor Coastguard and Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat crews who kept a watchful eye on the swimmers.
"Wonderful weather on Boxing Day meant people turned out in their droves," she said.
"Womble Wendy and Great Uncle Womble Don set up a bucket station at the Mill Bay, by kind permission of Phil and Tracy Treadwell, and the official collecting dog Pistache collected £448 in her bucket while her older friend Bruiser collected £89.
"Neil Williams raffled from his seafront studio a stunning landscape picture and raised £711.
"We so appreciate the help the community gives us, the collectors are so important in raising money which will go directly to those in our area who are facing hard times due to illness."
