THE first ever Relay for Life takes place this weekend and promises to be a great event.
Organised by Cancer Research, the 24-hour fundraiser will see team members take turns to walk around the track at Smallbrook Stadium, Ryde, to show cancer never sleeps.
The event is free to attend and spectators and cancer survivors, who will be welcomed with a lap of honour and VIP lunch, have been urged show their support - preferably dressed in day-glo leg warmers and deely boppers, as there will be an Eighties' fancy dress theme.
There will be a candle of hope ceremony to pay tribute to those affected by cancer and a closing ceremony for fundraisers to come together to celebrate their achievements.
Proceeds raised will go to Southampton General Hospital's oncology department and scientists, who help many Island patients.
The event starts at 12pm tomorrow (Saturday), so there is still time to sign up and join the 13 teams already taking part.
There are no age restrictions, just call 0300 123 1026 before 5pm today (Friday) or register online at tinyurl.com/IWCP-RFL
