SCOOTER, bike and trike riders came together to spread more than a little joy at Christmas.

More than 60 came together to deliver toys to patients in the St Mary's children's ward.

"This was the ninth year we have done it, bringing together members of clubs throughout the Island. It started as scooterists and for the last four years has been 'Mods and Rockers,' " said organiser Keith Carroll.

"Groups involved were the IW Scooterists' Facebook Group, IW Sports Bike Riders (SRC), British Legion Bikers, BTW Section 17 Trike Club plus lots of individual riders from around the Island."

Dionne Davies, from the St Mary's children's services department, said: “The children’s ward is always excited by the annual visit from the Mods and Rockers at Christmas time.

"You can see the children’s faces light up when they are given a present and see the bikers in their outfits – it really makes their day!

"Other presents are put under the tree for children who will be spending Christmas Day in hospital and those gifts bring a special kind of magic as not only are the children poorly, they can also feel like they are missing out on all the fun at home.

"Toys that are left over are used throughout the year for birthdays and as prizes for being brave – so they lift the spirits just when they are needed most!

"We are so grateful for the riders time and generosity and wish them all a very merry Christmas!”
