A CONTEMPORARY male youth dance company will premiere their new show in one off performance at a Winchester heritage theatre.

Southampton’s nationally acclaimed contemporary male youth dance company FuzzyLogic will debut their new show in an exclusive performance at the Theatre Royal, in Winchester.

The new energetic show titled The Doorman combines storytelling with dance and contact work. Commencing on August 20, The Doorman follows the story of: “Ten hopeful strangers, each with their own unique story to tell, arrive at a mysterious door. Here, The Doorman guards the gateway to the thing they want most, but the door will only open for those who prove worthy. As each wrestle with their own demons, fears and desires, the hopefuls try to discover the secret of the door.”

The show was initially created in 2021 but was postponed due to covid. FuzzyLogic, now in its 22nd year, is ZoieLogic Dance Theatre’s flagship youth company and has most recently been seen performing on the BBC’s Dance Passions programme.

Zoie Golding MBE, artistic director said: “The lads’ commitment to dance, their training and each other, especially in online sessions over the course of the pandemic, has been nothing short of astonishing. Their wish was a main stage show and they have taken the lead to make it happen - I couldn’t be more proud! If you want to be inspired and wowed by the dance talent the young men of Southampton have to offer, book your tickets and we look forward to seeing you there!”

Led by the artistic director, the dance company has been creating shows and working with both professional and non-professional dancers for over 20 years to challenge the perceptions of dance.

In addition, to The Doorman performance, a live Q&A with the dancers and founder Zoie and a short film screening of FuzzyLogic’s innovative dance film Grab will take place.

Among the 10 boys performing is Rambert School student and former company member Kai Harvey, who has returned to rejoin the company especially for the show after his first year training at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

The show will start at 7.30pm on Saturday, August 20 at the Theatre Royal in Jewry Street. Tickets costing £10 are available from the box office at theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk/whats-on/fuzzylogics-doorman.

The performance has been supported by the Arts Council England, Esmée Fairbairn and the Culture Recovery Fund.

FuzzyLogic was ZoieLogic’s first youth dance company, created in 2000 for boys aged 12-18. The company has since developed FuzzyClear for 8-25 year olds with autism and other sensory differences and FuzzyVision for kids aged 7-12 years old. All of the groups meet on Tuesday evenings during term time at the Marlands in central Southampton.

ZoieLogic Dance Theatre also works with specific schools and communities to improve dance accessibility.
