Does Malcolm Mime think of anyone except himself?

I happily read the first half of Mime's opinion column, (CP Friday, August 13, or click here), mentally congratulating him for bringing his readership down to earth after the intoxicating start to resuming something like normal life.

He appeared to be explaining that we shouldn't get carried away, and wishful thinking doesn't change the reality that we remain at risk from Covid-19, some more than others, especially from those around us who have chosen not to be vaccinated.

And that even when vaccinated ourselves we remain susceptible to catching a more moderate, but still somewhat debilitating form of the virus, (a 'breakthrough infection'), even if not needing to be hospitalised.

But not a bit of it! He goes on to tell us that he's confident he would have been untroubled by catching the virus from his friends, and that he "doesn't believe in masks!" (I can assure him they exist).

READ AGAIN: Salutory coronavirus tale should make CP columnist think

If he caught the infection and experienced it only mildly as a breakthrough, what if he passed it on to his mother, who might have experienced it very differently?

Mime then goes on to reassure us that the current floating bridge can be got rid of, because he has a car and can easily drive the long way to the other side! Words fail me at this point!
