TODAY is the final day of the year's first race meeting.
We haven't had the best of weather this week. But that hasn't stopped the punters having a great time.
We've seen some spectacular racing, spectacular umbrellas and spectacular good cheer. Housewives' favourite Frankie Dettori celebrated an opening-day win by turning DJ at a city nightclub. And even the traffic ran smoothly.
There will be no Royal Ascot or St Leger to look forward to in York this year.
But who needs them? York is a wonderful racecourse. And this week has been a great curtain raiser for what is sure to be a cracking season of racing ahead.
