28 Days Later was something of a rare triumph for the British film industry as well as being a science-fiction/horror movie that was innovative and slick.
This sequel is not just a simple rehash of ideas but a step forward that is as exciting and fresh as the first film.
The Danny Boyle and Alex Garland combination are not around this time with Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo at the helm.
But as you've guessed, the dreaded zombies are back again as the story picks up where 28 Days Later left off.
It is mainly set around London's Canary Wharf where US soldiers have just began the process of allowing British survivors back into ravaged capital city.
Also missing from the sequel is the original cast, but Danny Boyle favourite Robert Carlyle is here and on good form as Don, who with his two children, is among the first survivors to be reunited in the 'safe zone'.
He is a cowardly character who abandoned his wife (Catherine McCormack) in the zombie holocaust.
But when she turns up with bloodshot eyes you know things are going to get nasty and pretty soon we are inundated with the undead hordes.
It is a smart film with a fantastic ending.
