IT WAS a case of out with the old and in with the new at an Isle of Wight golf club on Sunday, as new captains began their annual roles with the traditional Captain's Drive-In event.

The day at Ryde Golf Club started with members enjoying a nine-hole Texas scramble competition, followed by the traditional 'putt out' by the outgoing captains, and 'drive in' by the new captains.

Afterwards, in the clubhouse, outgoing captains Calum McInnes and Rose Green presented a cheque for £1,750 to the Isle of Wight Prostate Cancer Support Group (IWPCSG), represented by Geoff Waddington and Tony Wheatley.

This rounded off a successful fundraising year, with £4,400 raised for various worthy causes.

New captains — Steve Tutt, Debbie Skoludek and Jon Blow (seniors) — then introduced representatives from their chosen charities for 2024, Hannah Griffith from the Alzheimer’s Society and Jenny Johnston and Alistair Bridle from WightSAR, who gave short talks on the work they do and how donations will help.

With the proceeds from a raffle and members guessing where the captains' drives would end up, more than £400 was raised to kick-start their 2024 fundraising.
