BRADING Town are enjoying their best-ever start to an Island League season after scoring 21 goals against opposition in their opening two fixtures in Division 1.
This afternoon, the Romans hammered Pan Sports 14-0 at Vicarage Lane — doubling their superb haul in the 7-1 demolition of East Cowes Sports (ECS) away in mid-week.
The defending champions, Whitecroft and Barton Sports, had a tricky opening fixture away at Shanklin, who held them to 2-2 at the County Ground.
Last season's Division 2 champions, Bembridge, enjoyed an impressive 3-2 win at home to Northwood St John at Steyne Park.
In the Sydenhams Wessex Premier, Cowes Sports continued their steady start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Bashley at Westwood Park.
After taking the lead in the first minute through Ash Brett from a corner, the visitors equalised six minutes later.
Bashley were awarded a dubious penalty, but Yachtsmen keeper Ed Hatt saves brilliantly to keep the scores level.
Cowes could have won it when Jimmy Wykes, with the goal at his mercy, completely misses a great Luke Philluips cross.
In Division 1 of the Wessex League, Newport chalked up a superb 5-3 win away at high-flying Ringwood Town, while East Cowes Vics grabbed their first point of the campaign, 1-1 against Bemerton Heath Harlequins at Beatrice Avenue — man of the match, defender Henry West, smashing a loose ball in from 25 yards in injury time.
