Island Roads has said it is phasing the project, ensuring access to Morrisons supermarket and petrol station and to Marks and Spencer, will be maintained at all times.

Pedestrian and emergency service vehicle access will also be maintained, with the road opened at weekends if work progress allows and safe to do so.

It approaching the town from the west, vehicles will have to go straight ahead, go round St George’s Roundabout then turn right into Church Litten.

The works will take place during the day between 7am and 5pm.

The second phase will see the whole road shut, with access only to Morrisons and Marks and Spencer.

Island Roads say although improvement works may cause inconvenience for residents and businesses, it is hoped disruption will be offset by the long-term improvements being made.
