A vehicle fire led to the closure of a road on the Isle of Wight today (Saturday).

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to a car alight on Knighton Shute.

Firefighters were called at 2.25pm.

One engine from Ryde Fire Station attended and the road had to be shut for a time.

Two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet were used to put the blaze out.

No one was seriously hurt and the vehicle was left in a lay-by, the fire service said.

Crews left the scene at 2.40pm.

The road has since reopened.
