Police searching for a missing man from the Isle of Wight have found a body.

Earlier today (Saturday) an appeal was launched to help find Ian Fisk, 59, from Totland Bay.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said officers were growing concerned for his welfare.

He was last seen on The Avenue at approximately 4.45pm yesterday (Friday).

Emergency services closed Military Road between Freshwater and Compton.

Helicopters from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and HM Coastguard were also deployed to search from the skies above.

On foot, officers were joined by WightSAR - the Island's volunteer search and rescue team.

Officers had also appealed to find a blue Mini Cooper, which they believed Ian was travelling in.

Tonight, police have confirmed a body has been found at Compton Beach.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, Ian’s next of kin have been informed.

A police spokesperson said: "Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal and phoned in with information."
