An Isle of Wight pub karaoke event organised by Gilly Harland, who was hospitalised after a collision with a car last month, will raise funds for the charity that helped save her life this Saturday (November 18).

Gilly, a teacher at Christ the King College in Newport, was involved in a collision in Cowes in early October, which left her with serious head injuries.

She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by a crew from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, a charity solely funded by generous donations.

Gilly’s partner, Chris, praised the ‘attitude and competence’ of all the emergency services, describing them as ‘amazing’.

Speaking to the County Press, Chris recalled police taking him to the Red Jet on blues and twos, getting his ticket and making sure a car was ready to pick him up on the other side – arriving at Southampton General Hospital at almost the same time as Gilly.

Since then, Gilly has been getting along okay and has started down her path to recovery.

The karaoke event, held at The Kingston Arms on Newport Road, Cowes, will raise funds for the air ambulance through killer pool, bar games, food, a raffle, and, of course, a karaoke.

Chris, alongside Matt Westwood, will DJ at the event, running the karaoke and keeping the tunes playing until close.

The raffle features prizes donated by the likes of Quay Arts, Helly Hansen, Tapnell Farm, Adgestone Vineyard, Tommy Bradshaw's Bar and Bistro and Donna Jones Hairdressing, with additional donations welcome!

The event gets underway at 3pm, with the raffle being drawn at 8.30pm.
