A MAN has died after being pulled from the water in Ventnor this afternoon (Friday).

At approximately 1pm, police were called to the scene off Ventnor Esplanade.

They were responding to concerns for the welfare of a man who had gotten into difficulties in the water.

"Despite the efforts of emergency services, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead," said a spokesperson for the force.

"His next of kin have been made aware.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Among those in attendance earlier today were Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams, Bembridge RNLI, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

They were called to Ventnor beach, off the Esplanade, near the Rotunda Bandstand.
