THE Downs Road has been closed this afternoon (Wednesday, October 26) following a crash near Knighton.
Police were called at 2.31pm with reports of a collision at the junction with Knighton Shute, involving a Suzuki Jimny and a Ford Fiesta.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that no serious injuries have been reported.
Traffic is at standstill on Rowlands Lane, as drivers divert around the crash.
Sgt Radford said: "Please completely avoid the area, there is no access to vehicles and traffic is at a standstill."
UPDATE: Sgt Radford has posted on the Isle of Wight Police Facebook page that the road will be closed for "some time".
He added: "This is due to the incident being treated as life changing / life threatening."
The County Press has asked Hampshire Constabularly for clarification on the conflicting statements from the police.
