FIREFIGHTERS were called to Godshill this afternoon (Wednesday) after a tractor caught alight on the main road through the village.

At 4.18pm, crews from Newport and Shanklin were called to the scene on School Road.

They were responding to a report that a tractor towing a trailer of hay bales had caught fire on the road.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the trailer was unaffected and the small fire had already been extinguished on arrival.

The owner of the tractor is organising recovery of the vehicle.

Minor traffic delays are being reported in the area.

Both fire crews stood down at 4.35pm.
