EMERGENCY service teams were called to the Newport Quay this afternoon (Wednesday) — to a report of a person suffering a medical episode and subsequently falling into the water.
At around 12.30pm, Coastguard Rescue teams from Ventnor and the Needles were joined by Cowes Lifeboat and police officers to assist the woman, who is in her 60s.
Before they arrived on the scene, the woman had been assisted by a member of the public who threw in a number of buoyancy aids and stayed with her.
The woman was taken to St Mary's Hospital by police following the incident, although no serious injuries have been reported.
