Isle of Wight firefighters are at the scene of a car on fire on Brading Downs today (Friday).

The vehicle is well alight and firefighters are using a water carrier vehicle.

Crews from Ryde and Ventnor are in attendance.

Smoke can be seen around the area.

The emergency call came in at 1.10pm, according to the IW Fire and Rescue Service.

The driver is safely free of the vehicle.

Update: The police have confirmed the car appears to have been set on fire.

A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that officers were called out to an incident at 1.17pm this afternoon (4 December) after Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service requested police assistance following a car being set on fire on Church Lane, Brading.

"No arrests have been made and is being dealt with by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and the IW Ambulance Service."

One male was admitted to hospital.
