A BOAT caught fire this evening (Sunday) at the entrance to Ryde Harbour.

The coastguard helicopter was tasked to the scene at 7pm alongside coastguard teams from Ventnor and Bembridge.

The Ryde Rescue independent lifeboat service also assisted in helping the passengers to safety.

The teams were tasked to the location following numerous 999 calls.

The vessel managed to limp to a mooring at around 8pm, with all passengers now safe and well.
